3. Name of teachers talked with whose classrooms visited and grade level: Mrs. Gould 5th grade and Mrs. Patton 5th grade
4. Perspectives on current and future use of technology in the classroom: The new core curriculum allows room for technology but it’s hard to schedule that much time in the computer lab. Mrs. Gould wishes each student had a tablet where it wasn’t a huge ordeal to bring in the mobile lab to the classroom.
6. Do teachers have class blogs? No.
7. Is there a school technology supervisor? Yes, Sherry but she only comes in on Fridays because she has 8 other schools to go to.
8. Do all the classrooms have computers in them? Yes. At least one in every classroom. Some classrooms have three computers. It was also used for student intervention.
9. Is there a computer lab/s? Yes, one lab and two mobile computer labs. It was used for learning games, writing, typing instruction, research, and state testing.
10. What kinds of computers are in the schools? Macs and projectors
11. What software programs are regularly used by teacher? Office Suite, Pixie, Inspiration 9, Kidspiration 3, and Comic Life.
12. Can/do teachers use the Internet in their instruction? Yes several times a month. Used for current events/shared reading, Brain Pop and Brain Pop Jr., which gives 2 minute video of a variety of academic topics.
13. How does a teacher get further training to use technology? The Jordan School District provides professional development. There is a hotline number you can call.
14. See if you can get a sense of the % of students who might have a computer in their home. About 99% of students have access to a computer at home.
15. Observations of students using technology:: Mrs. Patton’s 5th grade class was learning how to type better. Then they learned a new program called Pixie 3. The teacher had control of all the computers and the students could follow along by watching their own computer.
16. Other: The Special Ed. uses the computer in the classroom to help with individual instruction. The child logs in and can use Fast Math or Imagine Learning. This gives one-on-one instruction with headphone. Mrs. Gould likes how she can project her laptop screen to the whole class. It makes it easier for the students to see what is going on for better instruction.
